Indian masters out of doubles competition

Brazilian Marcelo Melo and Croatia's Ivan Dodig put out Wimbledon's fourth seeds in the men's doubles, India's Leander Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (2-6), 8-6 in a rain-interrupted third round match that was carried over from Monday.

Dodig and Melo led 4-6, 6-3, 4-3 and serving when rain stopped play on Monday evening. Early on Tuesday, the players barely managed to complete the third set when the skies opened up again. When they returned on court an hour later, Paes and Stepanek, upped their games and clinched the fourth set in a tie-breaker in which they never looked to be in any trouble.

In the fourth set, Paes' serve which looked in danger of being broken right through the match was broken in the fourth game when Melo slammed a high volley down the middle. The Brazilian-Croatian combine then stormed to a 4-1 lead but failed to keep its act together as a spirited Paes and Stepanek battled back to level set scores at 4-4 in the decider. The set was on serve at 7-6 with Paes serving at 30-30 in the fourteenth game when the skies opened up again.
